NHL Rumors: Bruins and McAvoy … Honka Getting Interest
Boston Bruins Charlie McAvoy
Bruins and McAvoy work out a three-year deal

Update: Bob McKenzie: The Bruins and McAvoy agree on a three-year contract extension with an AAV of $4.9 million. His year three salary would put his qualifying offer at $7.3 million.

  • Bob McKenzie: The Boston Bruins and restricted free agent Charlie McAvoy could be close to agreeing to a new contract. It wouldn’t be a surprise if McAvoy reports to training camp today.
  • McAvoy has been looking for a long-term deal but it could be something closer to Zach Werenski‘s three-year deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
  • Nothing is formalized yet but things are moving in the right direction.
Several teams interested in Honka

Eric Engels: The Montreal Canadiens are among a couple of teams that are interested in Dallas Stars defenseman Julius Honka – who as requested a trade.

The Canadiens are willing to trade a player for Honka instead of giving up a draft pick for him.

It’s believed that another team from the Eastern Conference is also interested.

Sean Shapiro: Have also heard that the Canadiens are interested in Honka. The Stars had been looking to get a draft pick for Honka, but if they need to do a player-for-player trade, it would add to their organizational depth. The draft pick a team is willing to give up may be too low for their liking.

Elliotte Friedman: The Carolina Hurricanes could be another team that has some interest in Honka.

Sean Shapiro: The Hurricanes also have some interest in Honka. They drafted his younger brother this past year.

Have also heard that there are a couple of Western Conference teams that are not interested in paying a third or fourth-round pick for Honka if that is what the Stars looking for.
