On the Toronto Maple Leafs and John Tavares …

Elliotte Friedman: There is now official confirmation that John Tavares did not sign last night and is only eligible to sign a seven-year deal.

Chris Johnston of Sportsnet: It appears that the Toronto Maple Leafs are now the frontrunners, the San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars, and Tampa Bay Lightning still in it.

The Islanders could have tried to do a sign-and-trade before last night’s deadline for an eight-year term. The maximum he can sign for now is seven years.

On the Boston Bruins …

Andy Strickland: Goaltender Jaroslav Halak will be signing with the Boston Bruins.

On the Calgary Flames …

Elliotte Friedman: Have been hearing that Derek Ryan’s deal with the Flames is for three-years and a $3.125 million salary cap hit. Austin Czarnik’s deal with the Flames could be for two years and a $1.25 million salary cap.

On the Dallas Stars …

Darren Dreger: The Stars will be signing goaltender Anton Khudobin.

David Pagnotta: Four teams were interested in Khudobin, with the Islanders one of them.

On the Edmonton Oilers …

Andy Strickland: Forward Kyle Brodziak will be signing with the Edmonton Oilers.

On the Florida Panthers …

Harvey Fialkov: Can’t see the Panthers doing much in free agency. Could add a veteran goalie for insurance.

On the Minnesota Wild …

Renaud Lavioe: The Wild will be signing Greg Pateryn to a three-year deal.

Bob McKenzie: Sounding like the Wild will be signing forward Eric Fehr to a one-year deal.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

Elliotte Friedman: Have been hearing that Jay Beagle’s contract with the Canucks will be for four years at a $3 million salary cap hit.  Antoine Roussel’s four-year contract is expected to be for $3.25 million a season.
