Stars and Seguin contract talks at a standstill
Nick Kypreos: Word is that contract extension talks between the Dallas Stars and forward Tyler Seguin are at a standstill and that it’s been at a standstill for quite a while. notes: “Long term remains priority for Seguin but the Tavares route becomes viable option as time passes.”
The Stars are still in the hunt for defenseman Erik Karlsson.
Will McQuaid be the odd man out in Boston?
Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports: Injuries and healthy scratches limited the 31-year old Adam McQuaid to 38 games last season. He could be the odd man out this season and the Bruins could look to trade him.
The Bruins have focused more on puck-moving defensemen. The issue about moving McQuaid was that they were pushed around by the Tampa Bay Lightning during their playoff series, and that should be a spot on the roster for some toughness like what McQuaid brings.
Maybe playing him in fewer games as opposed to moving him is a better option.
Matthews not worried about not having an extension in place yet
Dave Hogg of NHL.com: Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews isn’t worried that they don’t have a contract extension signed yet. The Leafs and his agents have started extension talks.
“I don’t know if I’ll sign a new contract before the season or not,” Matthews said Sunday at the Stars & Stripes Showdown at USA Hockey Arena. “I’m not really involved with the talks. That’s something being dealt with by my agents and team management.
“They’ve told me that it will get done when it gets done, and that’s fine.”
