NHL Notes: Leafs and Sparks … Pens and Brassard … Bruins Training Camp and Krejci
David Krejci talks about the Boston Bruins offseason interest in John Tavares
Garret Sparks requires waivers this season

Lance Hornby: Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Garret Sparks on having to clear waivers this season: “If you don’t make the team out of camp, every other NHL team has a chance to lay claim to you. It’s not something I’m looking forward to, that’s a stressful process.”

Lance Hornby: Sparks continued “if my worst case scenario is that I wind up playing for the Marlies, I’ve done it before, I’ll do it again if I have to. I love being with those guys, we won a Calder Cup. I’ve been (with the Leaf organization) eight years. I have organizational pride.”

Derick Brassard willing to wing a shot

Jonathan Bombulie of the Pittsburgh Tribune: Derick Brassard could be moved to the wing and into a top-six role this season. Brassard said he’s willing to give it a shot but hasn’t spoken with head coach Mike Sullivan or any other coach for that matter.

“I’m open for anything,” Brassard said. “We have a lot of good centers, which is really good to have on a team, a lot of depth. We’ve got Matt (Cullen), really good on faceoffs, really good on the penalty kill. I think that’s going to help a lot. Whatever’s going to help the team, I’m going to do whatever. I’m just going to have to play well and earn some minutes.”

Training camp battles for the Boston Bruins

Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald: Anders Bjork and Ryan Donato should get looks on the right side in their top six. Peter Cehlarik could also be in the mix.

Options for the third-line center position include Sean Kuraly, Trent Frederic, Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson, and Jack Studnicka.

If Jakub Zboril, Urho Vaakanainen, or Jeremy Lauzon have a really good camp, they could make another defenseman expendable

David Krejci of the offseason John Tavares talk

Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports Boston: David Krejci on Bruins offseason interest in center John Tavares.

“I had no idea what was going on. My agent didn’t tell my because he said he didn’t know anything. I didn’t get any phone calls from anyone from the Bruins,” said Krejci to NBC Sports Boston. “So I was just getting those Instragram messages in my inbox. I know that I have a no-trade so they would have to call me .

“Yeah, that wasn’t kind of something I enjoyed. But it was over pretty quick. It was a quick couple of weeks. It is what it is.”
