On the New Jersey Devils …

Mike Morreale of NHL.com: Forward Brian Boyle returned to practice yesterday for the first time since it was announced that he had chronic myeloid leukemia.

“Parts of it weren’t too bad; I was a lot better than I thought in some areas like conditioning and battles, and having my hands and feet working together,” Boyle said. “I’ve been for a month so this was an adjustment. Even throughout the practice, I felt better, but there’s still a ways to go.”

He had been skating on and off as he underwent treatment.

“It’s a great week for him to be able to be cleared,” coach John Hynes said. ” was a game-like practice; he had some battles and not a lot of time and space. It’ll be nice for him to get back, get his conditioning to see how his body responds.

On the Ottawa Senators …

Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen: Forward Bobby Ryan blocked a Ron Hainsey shot on Saturday and will be out at least a month with a broken right index finger.

It is the fifth consecutive season that he has injured one of his hands. He missed 19 games last season with a right index finger injury.

“I’ve heard about the past, but I was only there last year … I feel for (Ryan), I really do,” Boucher said. “This man has made some giant leaps personally, on the ice and off the ice, and the way he has presented himself this year and all the efforts he has put in. I find that sad right now, to be honest with you.”

Flyers Nation: The Flyers are saying that defenseman Andrew McDonald will be out for four to six weeks with a lower-body injury.

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Chris Johnston: The Maple Leafs signed defenseman Roman Polak to a one-year, $1.1 million deal.

Chris Johnston: The Leafs will need to make a roster move, Calle Rosen, and Andreas Borgman don’t need to clear waivers. (Rosen was assigned to the AHL this morning)

Chris Johnston: Polak was at the Leafs camp on a PTO and has been practicing with the team.
