Bill Hoppe of the Buffalo Hockey Beat: Forward Kyle Okposo suffered his second concussion in less than a year. He ended up in intensive care last March after he suffered a concussion.

“From my personal knowledge, just seeing him last night, I thought he was in a good place,” Sabres coach Phil Housley said inside KeyBank Center. “Obviously, there’s things that can happen down the road. But from my perspective, I thought he was in good spirits, so that’s a good sign.”

On the Dallas Stars …

Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: Forward Martin Hanzal will be out for six to seven months after he has spinal fusion surgery.

“As long as surgery goes well, and we’re anticipating it will, there should be no problem,” Nill said “But it is a major surgery.”

GM Jim Nill said that Hanzal had three injections as he tried to play through it, but he couldn’t do it anymore.

Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times: Defenseman Ryan McDonagh practiced yesterday in a regular contact jersey for the first time since joining the Lightning. McDonagh has been out since Feb. 8th. He isn’t sure if he’ll be in the lineup today. Earlier coach Jon Cooper said they expect McDonagh to return next week.

On the Winnipeg Jets …

Ken Wiebe: Coach Paul Maurice said that Mark Scheifele is improving but won’t return to the lineup for a few more days.

“We’ll be real, real careful with this one. We don’t want anything to linger on this, where he’s in and out of the lineup for a week or two. We’ll wait until he’s right.”
