Hayton makes the Coyotes opening night roster

Craig Morgan: Arizona Coyotes GM John Chayka said that 2018 first-round pick Barrett Hayton will make the team out of training camp. Centers Christian Dvorak and Alex Galchenyuk remain injured. thinks that when Dvorak and Galchenyuk are able to return, Hayton will be sent back to junior unless he is really impressive. Hayton can play in nine NHL games before it would burn a year of his entry-level deal.

Etem gets an AHL PTO

John Hoven: Emerson Etem signed a 25 game PTO with the LA Kings AHL team. After the 25 games are up, they can extend the PTO if they want. His tryout can be terminated at any point. This type of deal doesn’t take up one of the Kings 50 contracts.

Maple Leafs ‘leak’ leads to Carrick trade

Kevin McGran: When the Toronto Maple Leafs said yesterday that they were going to put defenseman Connor Carrick on waivers 90 minutes before the deadline, they received over 30 phone calls or text messages. A last-minute trade was worked out with the Dallas Stars for a conditional seventh-round pick, which was better than nothing.

Flames and Canadiens make a small trade

Eric Francis: The Calgary Flames have traded defenseman Brett Kulak to the Montreal Canadiens for defensemen Rinat Valiev and Matt Taormina.

Renaud Lavoie: Kulak is a 24-year old defenseman that carries a $900,000 salary cap hit. He played 71 games last season, 101 for his career.

Wilson’s hearing on Wednesday

NHL Player Safety: Washington Capitals Tom Wilson will have an in-person hearing with the NHL department of player safety on Wednesday.

JJ Reagan: Wilson had received a match penalty for this his hit, so he’s suspended indefinitely. Even if there is no ruling before their season opener, he won’t be eligible to play.
