Mark Stepneski of Stars Inside Edge: Forward Martin Hanzal won’t be on the ice until Tuesday due to a lower-body injury.

“We want this to be not a stop-and-go thing. We want it to be fixed so he can play and practice and maintain a competitive level,” Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said. “We’re buying a couple of days, so he is going to start skating on the second of January or begin to amp up on the second of January. We’ve pulled him right off the ice.”

They think they’ve figured out what is causing the lingering issue. They are not sure when Hanzal will be back in the lineup.

Defenseman Marc Methot was on the ice yesterday but is not ready to return. Methot had knee surgery on Nov. 6th.

Helene St. James: Coach Jeff Blashill said that forward Anthony Mantha is questionable with a groin issue.

Arpon Basu: Coach Claude Julien said there is nothing new with regards to defenseman Shea Weber. Julien added that he wouldn’t report anything until Weber is close to returning, so it appears that Weber is not close.

Adam Vingan of The Tennessean: Forward Filip Forsberg was put on the IR with an upper-body injury and recalled Freddy Gaudreau.

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Jason Mackey: Coach Mike Sullivan said that goaltender Matt Murray is an option for today.

Jason Mackey: Defenseman Kris Letang practiced yesterday in a no-contact jersey.

On the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Joe Smith: The Lightning put goaltender Peter Budaj on the IR and recalled Louis Domingue.

On the San Jose Sharks …

Curtis Pashelka: Forward Logan Couture has been out for the past two weeks with a concussion. He practiced yesterday in a no-contact jersey.

On the Winnipeg Jets …

Paul Friesen: Defensemen Dustin Byfuglien and Toby Enstrom practiced yesterday in no-contact jerseys. Jack Roslovic has been recalled, and Brandon Tanev has been put in the IR.

Brian Munz: Tanev is week-to-week with a lower-body injury. Byfuglien is hopeful in the next five days.
