Craig Morgan: The Coyotes won’t renew the contract for assistant GM Chris O’Hearn.

On the Carolina Hurricanes …

John Shannon: Rick Dudley signed on as the VP of Hockey Operation for the Hurricanes. Don Waddell said that they have now put their GM search on hold.

Arpon Basu: Dudley said that he spoke with the Canadiens about renewing his contract but decided he wanted a new challenge.

Arpon Basu: Dudley let Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin know a while ago that he be looking for something new. Bergevin allowed Dudley to make some calls to see what was out there. Dudley had been looking at the Hurricanes for the past couple months.

On the Edmonton Oilers …

Edmonton Oilers: The Oilers have signed 29-year old goaltender Mikko Koskinen to a one-year deal.

Pierre LeBrun: Koskinen can’t officially sign until July 1st. He’ll get a $2 million salary with a $500,000 signing bonus.

Aivis Kalnins: Koskinen made $2.6 million last year playing with SKA.

On the Los Angeles Kings …

LA Kings: The Kings have signed forward Brad Morrison to a three-year entry-level deal.

On the Ottawa Senators …

Bruce Garrioch: Senators GM Pierre Dorion said that head coach Guy Boucher and the rest of his coaching staff will be back next season.

Ian Mendes: Dorion said that Boucher will run the power play. Rob Cookson will be on the bench as an assistant coach. Martin Raymond will watch the game from above. Marc Crawford will say behind the bench.

On the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals 

Jason Mackey: Forward Evgeny Malkin returned to the lineup last night.

Jason Mackey: Coach Mike Sullivan on Zach Auston-Reese: “We lose a guy to a broken jaw that’s going to require surgery and a concussion because of another high hit to the head. At some point we would hope that the league might do something.”
