NHL Injury Updates

Michael Smith: Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rob Brind’Amour on forward Erik Haula: “He’s day-to-day. He’s got some lingering effects. It’s his knee that’s bothering him. We’re just kind of precautionary, really, making sure he feels good before we get him back out there. … Nothing structural, which is good.”

Mark Scheig: The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated Alex Texier from the IR.

Darren Dreger: Dallas Stars defenseman John Klingberg had an MRI yesterday to figure out the extent of his injury. Stars doctors initially figured two to four weeks.

Andrew Gross: New York Islanders forward Matt Martin skated on his own before practice yesterday. He’s still on the IR with a lower-body injury.

Colin Stephenson: New York Rangers Mika Zibanejad was on the ice yesterday in a no-contact jersey.

Chris Pinkert of NHL.com: St. Louis Blues forward Alexander Steen left last night’s game in the second period after an awkward collision. He needed help getting off the ice.

Coach Craig Berube didn’t have an update after the game. He will be re-evaluated today.

Patrick Johnston of the Vancouver Province: Vancouver Canucks forward Antoine Roussel is getting his knee checked out by doctors in Minnesota this week. He had surgery last March to repair a torn ACL.

Roussel needs to be cleared to start skating with the team. A return to game action isn’t imminent, but it may not be too far off either.

Winnipeg Jets PR: Updating Bryan Little yesterday.

“During the third period of last night’s game versus the New Jersey Devils, Winnipeg Jets forward Bryan Little was struck near the ear by a shot. Before the completion of the game, Little was transported to St. Boniface Hospital where he received 25-30 stitches to close a laceration. Little was subsequently transferred to the health sciences centre’s neurological unit lat night for further observation. Little was alert at all times and is in good spirits this morning. Further updates will be provided when available.”

Brittany Greenslade of Global News: While be assessed by doctors they noticed that Little had some “bleeding in his brain.” Little will need to go through concussion protocol.

He missed nine games already this season with a concussion.
