Carolina Hurricanes: All scans of Eddie Lack were negative. He’s been diagnosed with a neck strain.

Cory Lavalette: Defenseman Ryan Murphy missed last night’s game with an injury. Coach Bill Peters is optimistic that Eddie Lack will be able to play this season.

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Forward Evgeni Malkin will miss his seventh consecutive game on Wednesday. He skated before practice yesterday and is progressing.

“As I’ve said here, our medical staff has a good handle on it,” Sullivan said. “He’s going through a process both on and off the ice. He skated morning. He’s making progress. We’re encouraged. We’re hopeful we’ll get him back sooner than later.”

Forwards Jake Guentzel (concussion) and Conor Sheary (lower-body) and defenseman Ron Hainsey (upper-body) were all on the ice for practice yesterday.

Forward Matt Cullen missed practice yesterday with an illness.

Chad Ruhwedel is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Chris Johnston: Goaltender Frederik Andersen won’t rule out starting on Thursday.

John Lu: Coach Claude Julien said that Al Montoya is day-to-day with a lower-body injury and that he won’t practice today.

Helene St. James: Forward Andreas Athanasiou missed last night’s game. He was cross-checked by Victor Rask when he scored the OT and crashed into Eddie Lack.

On the Florida Panthers …

George Richards: Goaltender James Reimer left last night’s game with an upper-body injury.

On the New Jersey Devils …

Andrew Gross of The Record: Forward Mike Cammalleri missed his 13th consecutive game with a shoulder injury. Coach John Hynes said that he’s now day-to-day and added that there is a “good probability” that he plays this weekend.

Forward Jacob Josefson missed his 14th consecutive game with an upper-body injury. Coach Hynes said he could return next week.

Forward Devante Smith-Pelley is week-to-week with a lower-body injury. He hasn’t started yet and is likely done for the season.

On the New York Islanders …

New York Islanders: Coach Doug Weight on Boychuk: “Johnny Boychuk looked good today so I imagine if he has a good day tomorrow he’ll be ready to go for Thursday.”
