Brent Wallace: Ottawa Senators coach Guy Boucher said that he is still hoping that forward Brady Tkachuk is able to return “sometime this week.”

Maintenance for Kessel

Jonathan Bombulie: Pittsburgh Penguins forward Phil Kessel was given a maintenance day yesterday. During Saturday’s game he had limped to the locker room at one point but didn’t miss a shift.

Howden leaves early

New York Rangers: Rangers forward Brett Howden left last night’s game early and won’t return for precautionary reasons.

Kings fire Stevens and Nachbaur

Curtis Zupke of the LA Times: The LA Kings have fired head coach John Stevens and assistant coach Don Nachbaur and have named Willie Desjardins as their interim coach.

GM Rob Blake said the Desjardins will coach the team for the rest of this season.

Blake also hired Marco Sturm to be an assistant coach.

“It hasn’t gone the way we expect it to, and we haven’t played the way we expected to,” Blake said. “What Willie will bring — what we want to bring back — is we want to get the compete level up in our players. We’ve got to get the passion back in the game. We expect fully that he can right that and take us in the right direction.”

Jonathan Davis: The decision to fire Stevens was made on Thursday.

Lemieux to have his hearing today

NHL Player Safety: Winnipeg Jets forward Brendan Lemieux will have his hearing for an illegal check to the head of Florida Panthers Vincent Trocheck this afternoon.

On waivers yesterday

Elliotte Friedman: The Nashville Predators put Matt Donovan on waivers. The Washington Capitals put Nathan Walker on waivers. The Calgary Flames put Ehliz on unconditional waivers.

Wes Gilbertson: Ehliz will be heading back to Europe. He had spent the past eight season playing in the German DEL league.

Isabelle Khurshudyan: The Capitals are getting ready to activate Travis Boyd from the LTIR and they needed to clear a roster spot for him.
