Morning Hits: Brodeur, Waivers, Fines and Injury Updates
  • Rich Chere: Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said that Martin Brodeur will be back with the Devils at some point, but will finish the season with the Blues. Lamoriello: “I don’t think it’s a case of choosing. He’s been (in St. Louis) with the players. The players and administration asked him.” Lamoriello added that Blues GM Doug Armstrong has been in contact with the Devils about what was going on.
  • Pat Leonard: The Rangers made Lee Stempniak a healthy scratch last night.
  • Renaud Lavoie: The Senators put Colin Greening and Bradley Mills on waivers yesterday.
  • Frank Seravalli: The NHL has collected $1,203,132.64 in suspension and fine money so far this season.
  • Mark Stepneski: Stars Jason Spezza on his injury: “I broke my nose but I knew I was going to be back.”
  • Eric Stephens: Canucks Derek Dorsett left last night’s game with an upper-body injury.
  • Sarah McLellan: Coyotes Joe Vitale left last night’s game with an upper-body injury.
  • Aaron Portzline: Blue Jackets Jeremy Morin was hurt again last night. It is a different injury than the one he suffered against the Jets.
  • Aaron Portzline: Blue Jackets Matt Calvert has been sick the past two weeks. He has had no symptoms that are consistent with the mumps.
  • Rich Hammond: Kings Tyler Toffoli on if he’ll be in the lineup tonight: “Looks like it.”
  • Joanne Ireland: Oilers Taylor Hall left practice yesterday after being hit with a puck in the leg.
  • Ed Tait: The Jets put Mark Stuart on the IR. He’s been practicing but not ready just yet.
  • NY Islanders: The Islanders put Kyle Okposo (retroactive to Jan. 19th) and Eric Boulton (retroactive to Jan. 17th) on the IR.
  • Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area: The Sharks will be without Justin Braun and Tommy Wingels for a while with left hand injuries. Braun will be out for four-to-six weeks and Wingels hopes to be back in three-to-four weeks. Braun was injured after being hit with a Mike Cammalleri shot. Wingels said his hand was broken from a Cammalleri slash in the same game.
