Injuries: Crosby, Jackets, Wings, Sharks, Flyers, Sabres, Canes and Leafs
  • Shelly Anderson: Penguins GM Jim Rutherford on Sidney Crosby: “There is no indication at this time that this is the mumps, but we are going to hold him out (two games) as a precaution. We’ll have additional test results in a few days.”
  • Shelly Anderson: Penguins coach Mike Johnston said after the game that all Penguins were tested for mumps. Sitting Crosby was just precautionary.
  • Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch: Blue Jackets Scott Hartnell broke his finger on Thursday and will be out for two weeks. They put him on the IR and recalled Kerby Rychel. The Blue Jackets have lost 186 man-games in their first 27 games. Defenseman Fedor Tyutin skated and could possibly return next week. Defenseman Ryan Murray took part in their optional skate yesterday, the first time that he’s skated with teammates in weeks.
  • Helene St. James: Red Wings Stephen Weiss is out with a shoulder injury. Daniel Cleary and Brian Lashoff will in the lineup tonight.
  • Kevin Kurz: Sharks Marc-Edouard Vlasic said that he “feels great” and though there has been no official word, sounds like he’s a possibility for tonight.
  • Renaud Lavoie: Flyers Vincent Lecavalier has a lower body injury.
  • Joe Yerdon: Sabres Cody McCormick is likely out tonight.
  • Michael Smith: Hurricanes Jiri Tlusty is questionable for today. They’ll go with 11 forwards and seven defenseman if Tlusty can’t go.
  • Michael Traikos: Maple Leafs James Reimer left practice early yesterday after tweaking his groin. Randy Carlyle: “Goaltenders do that all the time. It was nothing dramatic.”
  • Jonas Siegel: Maple Leafs Roman Polak should return next Saturday, with anything earlier a “bonus” according to Randy Carlyle.
