Darren Dreger of TSN: Ryan Smyth’s return to Edmonton is on hold as the health of Gilbert Brule has stalled things. The Kings were going to buyout Brule but teams are not allowed to do that to injured players. Sources are saying Sheldon Souray’s name has come up, but the Kings are said to be not interested. Helene Elliott via twitter: The Kings wouldn’t be able to trade/waive/buy Brule out, which was what they wanted to do to regain some cap space for another left winger. Dennis Bernstein via twitter: Source is saying the Flames are back in and serious.
Chip Alexander via twitter: If the Hurricanes re-sign Jokinen, it will be difficult for them to re-sign Stillman according to GM Rutherford. Rutherford hopes to have some signings done by Monday. The Hurricanes had Ryan Murphy going in their top 6 and were targetting a forward, but couldn’t pass on Murphy when he dropped.
