Flames back in on Smyth … Hurricanes notes … Rangers don’t qualify Gilroy … Grachev wanted out … Sharp extension talks
  • Darren Dreger of TSN: Ryan Smyth’s return to Edmonton is on hold as the health of Gilbert Brule has stalled things. The Kings were going to buyout Brule but teams are not allowed to do that to injured players. Sources are saying Sheldon Souray’s name has come up, but the Kings are said to be not interested. Helene Elliott via twitter: The Kings wouldn’t be able to trade/waive/buy Brule out, which was what they wanted to do to regain some cap space for another left winger. Dennis Bernstein via twitter: Source is saying the Flames are back in and serious.
  • Larry Brooks via twitter: Grachev asked to be moved, wanted a fresh start. Rangers GM Glen Sather have been shopping him for a year and the Blues were the only team interested.
  • Tracey Myers via twitter: Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman on a Patrick Sharp extension, “I expect us to get him signed. My hope is to get it done quicker than with Brent (Seabrook).”
