Stars-Richards talking extension … Canucks need to clear $1.8 million for a Salo return … DiPietro hurt again … Reimer Staying? Trades in future for Kings?
  • Andy Strickland of True Hockey: Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk told Strickland that he’s focused on getting Brad Richards re-signed. They are concentrating on getting an extension done and not looking to trade him. Both sides have started talking, and ownership situation won’t get in the way of negotiations.
  • Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province: It looks like the Canucks will have to clear about $1.8 million when Sami Salo is ready to return. Though it’s unlikely the Canucks would waive both Aaron Rome and Andrew Alberts, their combined cap hit is $1.8 million. The Canucks could make a trade before Salo comes back, but GM Mike Gillis has said recently he’s not a fan of trading players.
  • Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger: Despite having many no-trade clauses and high salaried players, Lou Lamoriello is still trying to be a seller. Jamie Langenbrunner has a no-trade, but could be on the move.
  • Katie Strang via twitter: Rick DiPietro left last night’s game and will re-evaluate today, he had this to say after the game, “It was a little tweak and I’ll be back as soon as possible.”
  • Bryan Mullen of the Tennessean: Predators center Cal O’Reilly broke his right fibula on Sunday. O’Reilly was 3rd on team scoring with 18 points (yikes!). Preds centers have missed a total of 60 games this season, Matthew Lombardi (concussion), David Legwand (lower body injury) and Marcel Goc (shoulder) have all missed time.
  • Dennis Bernstein via twitter: With Murray’s comments about Jarret Stoll’s line and Marco Sturm hitting the wall, GM Dean Lombardi may have to overpay to bring in some scoring help.
  • Jonas Siegel via twitter: The Maple Leafs may not send James Reimer back to the AHL when JS Giguere returns from injury implied coach Ron Wilson.
