Blackhawks-Maple Leafs trade fell through … Jackets aren’t close to deal … 9 teams scouted Leafs-Blues game
  • John Talarico of Chicago Now: According to someone in the Chicago Blackhawks organization, the ‘Hawks and Toronto Maple Leafs were working on a deal that would have seen Jack Skille end up on the Leafs, but it fell through last week. The deal continued to grow as Brian Burke was trying to get bigger pieces involved. Talarico noted that the trade “would have been one of the biggest in recent NHL memory.”
  • Aaron Portzline via twitter: The Columbus Blue Jackets aren’t close to making a deal. GM Scott Howson has been working the phones, will join the team in LA today.
  • David Pagnotta via twitter: 9 scouts from 9 different teams took in the Toronto Maple Leafs – St. Louis Blues game last night. Scouts at the game were from: Colorado, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Boston, Edmonton, Carolina, Dallas, Calgary, NY Rangers.

Biggest hockey trade in recent history? Probably Dion Phaneuf trade. What can Burke as Chicago to throw in to turn a Jack Skille trade into a deal bigger than the Dion Phaneuf trade? Brent Seabrook?

  • He didn’t say it would be ‘bigger’ … ‘one of the biggest’

My first thought on the ‘one of the biggest’ was the number of players involved and not the quality.
