Avalanche sign Top Pick Duchene

The 3rd overall pick in the recent NHL entry draft has been signed in Colorado. Matt Duchene’s entry level contract calls for him to make $900,000 in salary in each of the three seasons. The Avalanche cap hit will be $3.2 million a season when bonus figures are included.

After much speculation leading up to the draft that Duchene could be a potential 1st overall pick for the Islanders, he was selected by the Avalanche, his favorite team growing up. It’s too bad he won’t get to play with boyhood idol Joe Sakic, but it’s safe to say Sakic will be involved with the Avs in the near future in some capacity.

This is a good start for a rebuilding franchise. (source-Denver Post)
