Wild Acquire Chuck Kobasew

The Minnesota Wild have acquired Chuck Kobasew from the Boston Bruins for Craig Weller, the rights to Alex Fallstrom (a 2009 4th round pick) and a 2011 2nd round pick. The Wild were looking to add a winger as Petr Sykora was placed on IR, Pierre-Marc Bouchard was placed on LTIR, not good news for a team that has trouble scoring. Martin Havlat has a wonky groin as well. Will Chuck Kobasew help them, probably not a whole lot.

It seems like a steep price to acquire the 3rd line gritty winger, though he’ll be on the 1st or 2nd line for the Wild. It’s a nice move by the Bruins as it clears $2.5 million in cap space, and gives them a prospect, an early round draft pick, and a depth/minor league forward. The Bruins have, and will continue to have to monitor their cap number as all-star center Marc Savard is a UFA at seasons end, this deal may be the first of several to create room to re-sign their star center.

In other Bruins news, they placed rugged winger Milan Lucic on LTIR with a broken index finger, so he’ll be out 10 games and 24 calender days. They’ve recalled Brad Marchand, Vladimir Sobotka, and Guillaume Lefebvre.

Could the Blackhawks be considering sending Huet to the minors to sort our his issues? It is definitely an option for them. I’m sure nobody would make a waiver claim on him.
