Trade Deadline Fallout II: Callahan, MacDonald, Vanek, Leafs, Bulter, Flames and Stastny
  • Pat Leonard: Rangers GM Glen Sather confirms that contract talks stalled with Ryan Callahan because Callahan wanted a no-trade clause.
  • Erik Erlendsson: Lightning owner Jeff Vinik: “We are pleased to add Ryan Callahan to our team and we hope to sign him for the long term”
  • John Boruk: The Flyers could be looking to sign newly acquired Andrew MacDonald to a contract extension in the $4 to $5 million per season range. Dave Isaac: There have been talks yet, but MacDonald’s agent is “not afraid of a long-term deal.”
  • John Vogl: The Sabres ended up trading Thomas Vanek (retaining some of his salary) and Cody McCormick for a first round pick in either 2014 or 2015, three second round picks in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and Torrey Mitchell.
  • Hope Smoke: Darren Dreger: “The Leafs were relatively quiet, but the Leafs more than kicked tires on Vanek. They were big players on that” … “The Leafs were one of three teams, maybe more, that pretty much brought it down right down to the wire on Vanek”
  • Chris Nichols: Islanders GM Garth Snow said they didn’t get an offer for Thomas Vanek until after noon on trade deadline day.
  • Steve Mears: Isles GM Snow on the difficulty of trading Vanek: “There was a player (Kesler) in play, which delayed the process around the league.”
  • Hope Smoke: Dreger: “Nonis made it abundantly clear that he wasn’t going to give up assets unless it was for a hockey deal, not a rental”
  • Wes Gilbertson: The Flames received some calls on defenseman Chris Butler. There have been some talks between the Flames and Butler about a contract extension.
  • David Pagnotta: Flames GM Brian Burke admitted that a three-team deal fell through that would have seen them take on salary in exchange for a draft pick.
  • Adrian Dater: Dater thinks the Avalanche will re-sign Paul Stastny.
