Third group unvails plan for a team in southern Ontario

TSN reported “A new group has come forward with a proposal to launch a second NHL franchise in Toronto. They have a name — the Toronto Legacy — and even a sweater and logo”…

In sharp contrast to the Jim Balsillie situation this new group is looking for an expansion franchise and is stating that they are completely willing to play by NHL rules. Trying the “nice guy” approach it seems.

I can’t say for sure but something feels a little too convenient about the timing here. In the public relations aspect of the Balsillie situation the NHL is getting killed  in the court of public opinion and now there’s an “option” where the group would be “honoured” just to be considered an option. Not to mention that they are proposing donating 25% of their net profit to charity each year as well as all of the income from seat licencing fees. Over half the seats will be under $50 for the average joe to be able to attend and bring the kids blah blah…

They even say there is no time limit on this proposal. 5 or 10 years from now is fine apparently. No hurry. Hmmmm.
