Trade Hits: Oilers, Coburn, Seguin, Cammalleri, Flyers and Edler

  • Dustin Nielson: The Flyers initially asked the Oilers for two second round picks this year and a second next year for Braydon Coburn.
  • David Pagnotta: The Flames talked to the Bruins about Tyler Seguin. Unless the Bruins get an amazing offer, Seguin isn’t going anywhere.
  • The Fourth Period: The Flames are actively looking to make some moves. They had spoke with Vincent Lecavalier. They continue to entertain offers for Michael Cammalleri. The Flames want to acquire a first or second line center, a top-six forward and a top-four defenseman.

“(Free agency) is something that we don’t believe will necessarily fill all of our needs,” Feaster told the Calgary Herald. “We do feel, though, that there are some needs that we have — we still need to play the games, we still need to be competitive. There are some things that we are going to take a look at.”

  • Craig Custance of ESPN: After the signing of Vincent Lecavalier, the Flyers will have to move out a player or two. Trade talks involving Braydon Coburn will pickup again.

Gerbe had back surgery … Mezsaros back skating … Schneider, Duchene may be heading home … Letang to SKA

  • Steve Vesey of WIVB: (hat tip to Dobber for link) Sabres forward Nathan Gerbe had offseason back surgery. He couldn’t skate for 6 months, and just got back on the ice in the last couple weeks.

“It’s been a good time for me to get healthy,” said Gerbe. “I had spine surgery in the summer… I’m just starting to catch my groove and get strong again, and hopefully I can get back at some point this season.”

  • Sam Carchidi via twitter: Andrej Mezsaros has a doctor’s appointment on Monday to see how much he’s healed. He’s been skating but not 100% just yet.
  • Sportsnet: News 1130 Sports out of Vancouver is reporting that Cory Schneider may have played his final game on Wednesday with HC Ambri Piotta of the Swiss League, and could be heading back to North America soon. Matt Duchene could also be leaving Ambri Piotta soon as well.

Carter injured … Pronger and Seabrook could be back for Game 5 … Video of Richards elbow on Kaleta

  • Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer: The Flyers 1-0 loss to the Sabres last night could turn out to be pretty costly. Mike Richards had a 5-minute major for elbowing Patrick Kaleta, and it could be under review by the league. Jeff Carter left with 2 minutes left in the 1st period with what looked like an knee injury after colliding with Tyler Myers. GM Paul Holmgren said Carter is day-to-day. The loss may also signal the return of Chris Pronger who’s been out for the last 5 weeks.
  • Brian Hamilton of the Chicago Tribune: Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook traveled with the team and could be in the lineup for Game 5. John Scott could be out of the lineup if Seabrook is back in. Tomas Kopecky has been out with an upper-body injury, is still out.
  • Bill Beacon of the Globe and Mail: Canadiens forward Jeff Halpern practiced yesterday and it looks like he could be ready to go tonight. He’s been out with an undisclosed injury.
  • Damian Cox of the Toronto Star: The Blackhawks won’t have to dismantle again this off-season. They have $51 million committed for next year, and the salary cap is expected to rise to around $62 million next season. Cory Crawford is basically on the only major contract they have to deal with. They could look to add a veteran center, some size and maybe a new backup goalie.
  • Richards elbow on Kaleta. I don’t see him getting suspended.
