Morning Rumors I: Habs Turn Down Bourque-Parenteau Offer? Other Avs and Canadiens Notes

  • Louis Jean: The Canadiens turn down a trade offer from the Avalanche, Rene Bourque for P.A. ParenteauAdrian Dater: “Not true”
  • Adrian Dater: The Avalanche made P.A. Parenteau a healthy scratch last night. Coach Patrick Roy said the decision was based on Parenteau just coming off the IR and the need for him to get stronger.
  • Hope Smoke: Bob McKenzie: ”Parenteau came back early from his knee injury and hasn’t looked right. Healthy scratch tonight due to performance” … ”There are a lot of rumblings that the Avs aren’t married to him. I would say he’s available.”
  • Hope Smoke: McKenzie: ”Therien is not going anywhere” …  ”I’m telling you right now, unless the Canadiens go horribly downhill, Bergevin will not make a coaching change in season”
  • Hope Smoke: McKenzie: ”Bergevin is trying to make a deal but so are all the other teams right now”
  • The Fourth Period: Sounding like the Canadiens are onto something soon. They’ve been looking for a top-six winger. They’ve been in talks with a few teams lately and talks with one team have increased. Sounding like it could be close.
  • The Fourth Period: Rene Bourque, Daniel Briere and Brian Gionta’s names are part of the Canadiens rumors. Gionta has a no-trade clause. Briere has a no-movement clause. Bourque has a limited no-trade clause. GM Marc Bergevin won’t overpay for a rental, but is willing to move young prospects to improve their roster. Though unlikely to be moved, teams are calling about P.K. Subban, Max Pacioretty, Brendan Gallagher and Lars Eller.
  • The Fourth Period: Sources saying the Canadiens, Senators and Red Wings are among the teams interested in Parenteau.
  • Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: Dater could see the Avalanche trading Parenteau, but they already have a lot forwards and have worries on their blueline. If they were able to get a nice defenseman for Parenteau, Dater could see it happening. Dater wonders if the Canadiens would give up a defenseman or another forward like Brian Gionta. Dater would only trade Parenteau for a defenseman.

Injury notes: Landeskog, Michalek, Skinner, Booth, Dubinsky, Wisniewski, Gallagher, Crawford, Powe and Daley.

  • Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: Dater wonders if it would be better for the Avalanche to shut Gabriel Landeskog down for the season due to his concussion. Coming back too early can put players at risk for a more serious concussion if they get another one when not fully healed. Landeskog skated by himself on Friday, the first time since suffering a concussion on January 26th.
  • Ian Mendes via twitter: It’s not likely that Milan Michalek will play today or on Tuesday. He should have his knee examined by doctors again early this week.
  • Chip Alexander via twitter: Hurricanes Jeff Skinner will not play in Montreal due to an upper-body injury. Michael Smith of Skinner will be evaluated when they return home on Tuesday. Defensemen Joni Pitkanen and Tim Gleason didn’t practice yesterday and won’t be travelling to Montreal. They are day-to-day with lower-body injuries.
  • Elliott Pap via twitter: Canucks winger David Booth is close to returning and expects to be back in the lineup on their upcoming road trip. Booth on when he might play: ”Chicago is a possibility in my mind. Two days is a lot. We’ll see how it feels.”
  • Shawn Mitchell via twitter: Blue Jackets Brandon Dubinsky won’t play today. Defenseman James Wisnieski is joining teammates in Anaheim. Artem Anisimov and Cam Atkinson haven’t been ruled out against the Ducks.
  • Mark Lazerus via twitter: Blackhawks Corey Crawford is “still progressing” according to coach Joel Quenneville and it’s not expected to be a long-term issue.

Subban update coming tonight … Flyers haven’t talked to Habs … Selanne will see how body reacts … Not going back to Junior

  • Sean Gordon of the Globe and Mail: Subban will meet with his agent this today in Toronto, and then Meehan will touch base with the Canadiens. Subban was to be spending the weekend thinking about the next step. The Canadiens are off to a good start, and their power-play is clicking, but they don’t have anyone that can eat the minutes that Subban does. There hasn’t been any sense that the Canadiens have any desire to trade him.
  • Sam Carchidi via twitter: The Flyers have held no internal talks about P.K. Subban, and none with the Canadiens despite the reports.
  • The Fourth Period: Teemu Selanne told the LA Times he will see how his body recovers from the short season before deciding if he’ll retire or play another year.

“I expect to know at some point how my body’s holding up, and how much I enjoy this,” Selanne said. “So far, it’s been quite easy. I know I can play. I usually wait a month after the season to decide, and every time I feel like, ‘It’s time now.’ So that’s good. This is a hobby still.”

“I just hope I can stay healthy, enjoy it and play well,” Selanne said. “I know what I can do for this team, so hopefully I’m going to do it.

“I play because I enjoy this game.”

  • John Lu via twitter: Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin and coach Michel Therrien told Brendan Gallagher and Alex Galchenyuk this morning that they will be staying with the team. Bob McKenzie via twitter: Galchenyuk and Jonathan Huberdeau where told they are staying. Bruins Dougie Hamilton could be next to be told that he’s staying.
