Rumors V: Staal, Flames, Rangers and Bruins
  • Chip Alexander: Hurricanes GM Ron Francis: “We are not moving Jordan Staal.”
  • Chip Alexander: Francis said that any trades they make will likely only involve their pending UFAs and would happen “sooner rather than later” and not on March 2nd.
  • Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun: Where will Curtis Glencross end up? Has been reported that the Ducks, Blackhawks, Kings, Predators and Lightning could be on his trade list. If GM Brad Treliving doesn’t like the offers he’s getting for Glencross, they could keep him.The Flames could be looking to acquire some depth on the blueline and some help on the wing. Goalie prospect Joni Ortio suffered a high-ankle sprain (out six to eight weeks), so the thought of trading pending UFA Karri Ramo is likely gone. Treliving could look at adding some goalie depth.
  • Steve Zipay of Newsday: Scouting the Rangers-Canucks last Thursday: Stars, Sharks, Red Wings, Flames and Sabres. Scouting the Hurricanes-Leafs on Friday: Rangers, Blackhawks, Jets, Penguins, Blues and Blue Jackets. Coyotes GM Don Maloney has been at least two Rangers games. The Rangers will look to add some depth to their lineup. They have two second round picks, a third, a fourth and a sixth, to go along with limited cap space. The price for Andrej Sekera, Jeff Petry and Zbynek Michalek is too high for the Rangers. They are not trading Anthony Duclair, Pavel Buchnevich or Brady Skjei. They could make Danny Kristo and a few other AHLers available for the right package.

Avs Jan Hejda and Hurricanes Brett Bellmore are on the Rangers radar.

The Rangers have been long interested in Curtis Glencross. Other pending UFAs that might be of interest: Mark Letestu, Torrey Mitchell, James Sheppard, Kyle Brodziak, Daniel Winnik and Erik Condra.

  • Kevin Paul Dupont: Three possible trade targets for the Bruins: Keith Yandle, Mike Green and Jaromir Jagr.
