Rumors V: OIlers, Blues, Coyotes, Rangers, Ducks, Caps, Sens and Isles
  • Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Matheson thinks the Oilers should hold out for a 2nd round pick and solid defenseman prospect for Jeff Petry. Should ask the Red Wings for Xavier Ouellet or Ryan Sproul and a pick for Petry. The Canadiens could be interested in Petry as well.Blues Kevin Shattenkirk will be back in plenty of time, mid-March, so they don’t need to go get someone, but if they are looking for a rental, could look at Sabres Andrej Meszaros.

The Coyotes will likely trade Martin Hanzal, and he could end up with the Rangers. Agree with Newsday’s Steve Zipay in that J.T. Miller and John Moore makes sense.

Ilya Bryzgalov isn’t stopping enough pucks, and maybe the Ducks give the Oilers a call about former Duck Viktor Fasth.

The Capitals could use a right winger for their top line. Rental market includes Drew Stafford, Chris Stewart and Michael Ryder. Ryder may make the most sense and could cost a 2nd and a prospect. The one the Capitals would like isn’t available, Shane Doan.

Wonder if Hurricanes GM Ron Wilson has called to see if they’d be interested in Alex Semin if they picked up some salary.

Matheson thinks the Capitals would trade Jason Chimera.

Though he said he’d listen to offers on any of his players, Coyotes GM Don Maloney isn’t trading Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

  • Craig Custance of ESPN: Source on the Senators: “I don’t think there would be anybody they wouldn’t consider moving.” Not likely that they’d trade Erik Karlsson or Bobby Ryan. Source added: “They’re money sensitive,” said the source. “Especially considering the Canadian dollar.”(mailbag) The Islanders have to be careful to not trade away too many picks and prospects. Custance thinks Daniel Winnik would be a good fit for the Isles.
  • Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal: Oilers Jeff Petry has been playing better of late, and is trying not to focus on the rumors.

“It’s business as usual for me. From the summer until the first week of the season, there were rumours going around, so I just have to continue to block them out. They are just rumours until something actually happens,” the 27-year-old said before the team headed out for a six-game road trip that starts Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs and concludes Feb. 16 against the Winnipeg Jets.

“I’ve talked to my agent a little bit about what to expect. From there, it’s just a wait and see.”
