Rumors V: Kessel, Bruins, Penguins, Flyers, Senators and Canadiens
  • Andy Strickland: The Maple Leafs have told at least one team that they would be willing to retain $2 million of Phil Kessel’s contract in a trade.
  • Damien Cox of Sportsnet: The Bruins now have goalies Tuukka Rask, Martin Jones, Malcolm Subban and Zane McIntyre. Someone will likely be moved, and the Sharks might be the team a Bruins goalie ends up with. The Bruins didn’t really clear out a lot of cap space with their trades and Cox wonders if Rask could be on the move.If Russian winger Evgeny Svechnikov wasn’t available when the Red Wings picked at No. 19, they would have drafted Russian goalie Ilya Samsonov.

The Penguins can choose between available wingers for Sidney Crosby or Evgeni MalkinPatrick Sharp, Phil Kessel, Jeff Skinner, T.J. Oshie and UFA Martin St. Louis. GM Jim Rutherford has young defensemen in Olli Maatta, Brian Dumoulin, Scott Harrington and Derrick Pouliot. Kessel and Skinner trades could help the Penguins move contracts like Chris Kunitz, Brandon Sutter or Rob Scuderi.

  • Joe Haggerty: Max Talbot shot down on twitter that he requested a trade from the Bruins.
  • Platium Seat Ghosts: Steve Simmons on the the Maple Leafs free agency plans: “My information says they don’t do anything in the next couple days.”
  • Sam Carchidi: The Flyers didn’t put Sam Gagner on waivers yesterday, but are still deciding whether to buy him out or not.
  • Andy Strickland: Some teams talked to the Blues about trading for Vladimir Sobotka, but only if we would be returning to the NHL next season. He doesn’t have much trade value if he’s playing in the KHL next year.
  • Bruce Garrioch: The Senators have made a contract offer to Erik Condra. Will likely find out his decision today.
  • Habs Links: Darren Dreger on TSN 690:  “I tihnk that Bergevin would like to add pieces up front. Not to overhaul or change dramatically, but just to improve.”
  • Habs Links: Darren Dreger on TSN 690 radio on the moves the Bruins have made this past week: “Count us among the legion of those confused.”
