Rumors: Seabrook, Flames, Sens, Canucks, Bergenheim and Zidlicky
  • Chris Kuc: Source saying the Blackhawks and Brent Seabrook are closing in on a long-term contract extension.
  • Chris Hine and Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune: Seabrook said yesterday that he and his agent have been talking with GM Stan Bowman about a contract extension. A source added that the deal could be for six or seven years. Seabrook carries a cap hit of $5.8 million this year, and the Blackhawks would like to keep his next salary cap hit around $6 million.
  • Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun: Flames Kris Russell is entering the final year of his contract that sees him make $2.6 million. The Flames have already locked up Mark Giordano, Dougie Hamilton and TJ Brodie long-term with a combined $17.15 million cap hit.

“I’ve just got to go out and play and show what I can bring to this team, and hopefully something gets done, but you never know,” Russell said.

“We’re not pushing it, not rushing it, and I want to be a Calgary Flame. But at the end of the day, we’ll see what happens.”

The Flames also have forwards Jiri Hudler and David Jones, along with goalies Jonas Hiller and Karri Ramo, as pending 2016 unrestricted free agents. Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau will be restricted free agents.

  • Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun: Senators Colin Greening has two years left on his contract at close to $6 million. The Senators have 13 forwards on one-way deals, with Greening having the fifth highest salary cap hit at $2.75 million. The Senators have been trying to move him for awhile.
  • Jason Brough: Canucks Dan Hamhuis said that there could be contract extension talks “through the season.” It sounds like Hamhuis doesn’t have any interest in leaving Vancouver.
  • Frank Seravalli: Sean Bergenheim is the top free agent still available. Have been told the Marek Zidlicky is considering two offers.
  • Frank Seravalli: Bergenheim’s agent said they are not interested in PTO’s and they wait and see how things go with teams training camps. They have had multiple PTO offers.
