Jonathan Bernier formerly of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning
On the Minnesota Wild …

Michael Russo: The Wild put Jordan Schroeder on waivers yesterday. Schroeder filed for salary arbitration. Craig Button: “Arbitration ploy to demonstrate player should be on a two-way contract.”

On the Columbus Blue Jackets …

Aaron Portzline: As of this past weekend, the Blue Jackets were close to re-signing RFAs Alex Broadhurst, T.J. Tynan and Scott Harrington.

On the Toronto Maple Leafs, San Jose Sharks, and Steven Stamkos …

The Fourth Period: Multiple sources with knowledge of the meetings held between the Maple Leafs and Steven Stamkos told TFP that the Leafs were prepared to offer Stamkos a seven-year, $73.5 million deal – a $10.5 million cap hit.

The Sharks were also “heavily” courting Stamkos.

Two different sources said that the Maple Leafs and Sharks were the final two teams that Stamkos was considering after the Lightning.

It’s unclear what the Sharks were considering offering Stamkos, but source said around $10 million.

On the Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks …

Chris Johnston of Sportsnet: From the Jonathan Bernier trade to Anaheim, there are four conditions on the draft pick. If the below conditions are not met, the Maple Leafs don’t receive a draft pick.

  • Bernier starts 50 percent of the Ducks playoff games and they win the Stanley Cup – Maple Leafs receive the Ducks 2017 2nd round pick. Leafs would get a future 2nd round pick if the Ducks don’t own their 2nd.
  • Bernier starts 50 percent of the Ducks playoff games and they lose in the Cup Final – Maple Leafs receive the Ducks 2017 3rd round pick. Transfers to a future 3rd if the Ducks don’t own their 2017 pick.
  • If the Ducks trade Bernier and he starts 50 percent of that teams playoff games and they win the Stanley Cup – Maple Leafs get the Ducks 2nd round pick.
  • If the Ducks trade Bernier and he starts 50 percent of that teams playoff games and they lose the Stanley Cup – Maple Leafs get the Ducks 3rd round pick.
