Rumors IV: Rangers, Oilers, Maple Leafs, and Kings
Nazem Kadri

On the New York Rangers …

  • Larry Brooks of the NY Post: The Rangers use of Keith Yandle of late may be an indication that they are not interested in re-signing the pending free agent. The Rangers gave up a 1st round pick and Anthony Duclair for Yandle. Market value for Yandle could be $5.5-$6 million for five or six years. If the Rangers did want to keep Yandle, they would likely have to shed some future salary, with Marc Staal and his $5.7 million cap hit through 2020-21 being the likely candidate.
  • The Rangers remain interested in Jonathan Drouin.
  • Sources saying the Rangers have not once inquired about Blue Jackets Cam Atkinson.

On the Edmonton Oilers …

  • David Staples of the Edmonton Journal: Craig Simpson on CHED 630 on Oilers Now on if the  Oilers should hold off on trades until Connor McDavid and Oscar Klefbom return from injury.

“For Peter Chiarelli, it’s a tough spot. You’d like to make a change in some of the personnel and make a deal, but I would agree that you got to give it some time to say let’s get Connor McDavid, who we feel will change the dynamics of the team and the way that your opponents play against you, and let’s get a healthier defence. If Oscar is able to come back and play a role, let’s see how down the ladder that affects guys like Darnell Nurse and like (Brandon) Davidson who don’t have to maybe play as big a minutes, and see what you have as a team there.”

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

  • Platinum Seat Ghosts: Nick Kypreos on pending RFA Nazem Kadri: “He’s looking for a 5 or 6 year deal and if it’s not over 30 million dollars he’s looking for, it’s pretty close.”
  • Platinum Seat Ghosts: Kypreos on Kadri: “If you don’t want to pay him 5.5 or 6 million dollars a year, maybe someone else will.”

On the Los Angeles Kings …

  • Dennis Bernstein: Asked if it’s time for the Kings to look at trade Dustin Brown … Need to see how the season plays out as there to many scenarios to automatically assume that trade.
