Rumors II: Hurricanes, Oilers, Jets, Blue Jackets, Habs and Leafs
  • The Fourth Period: The Hurricanes are taking calls on defenseman Andrej Sekera. The Hurricanes and Sekera have been unable to reach a contract extension. It has been reported that the Kings, Red Wings, Penguins and Ducks are among the teams interested. It’s unclear how contract extension talks with Jiri Tlusty are going. Teams are also interested Tlusty.
  • The Fourth Period: The Oilers are expected to trade Jeff Petry, and are getting calls on some of their other players: Jordan Eberle, Taylor Hall, Nail Yakupov, Boyd Gordon and Andrew Ference. Viktor Fasth could get some interest. Source saying it’s “highly unlikely” that they move Hall, and that Eberle and/or Yakupov could be traded “in the right deal.”
  • The Fourth Period: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff thinks he can still improve his team.

    “Will we be actively looking and actively evaluating from now until the trade deadline? Yes,” he told reporters on Wednesday.

    The Jets have some extra defesneman they can move. They would like to add a bottom-nine forward who is good defensively, and have shown interest in Maple Leafs Daniel Winnik.

  • The Fourth Period: The Blue Jackets have been taking calls on Mark Letestu (UFA), Cam Atkinson (RFA) and Matt Calvert (RFA).

    “We have young players and a good foundation in place, but we’re always looking for ways to improve our club,” Kekalainen told the Dispatch.

    The Bruins and Avalanche are among the teams interested in Atkinson according to the Dispatch. The Flames are thought to be interested in Letestu. Jordan Leopold could be dealt in the coming days.

  • The Fourth Period: The Canadiens are actively looking for a young, top-six forward, preferably with term left on his deal. Bob McKenzie reported that the Canadiens are dangling Lars Eller and Alexei Emelin. GM Marc Bergevin has been eyeing Jordan Eberle and Nail Yakupov. They are also looking at Coyotes Keith Yandle and Antoine Vermette.
  • The Fourth Period: Maple Leafs that are available: forwards Phil Kessel, Daniel Winnik, Tyler Bozak, Mike Santorelli, Joffrey Lupul, David Booth and Nazem Kadri, defensemen Dion Phaneuf, Cody Franson, Roman Polak, Korbinian Holzer and Jake Gardiner, and goaltender James Reimer. They are looking at multiple options in moving free agents for prospects and picks, as well as moving Phaneuf, Bozak and Lupul for similar, NHL-proven players. The Leafs have shown interest in Ryan O’Reilly, Jordan Eberle, Martin Hanzal and T.J. Oshie.
