Rumors II: Anderson, Flyers, Red Wings and Oilers
  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: It’s believed that a couple teams have called the Senators to see if Craig Anderson is available. There haven’t been serious talks about a potential deal. If they were to move him, they would want a top young player, a prospect and a top pick. He doesn’t have no trade clause, but isn’t worried about it. As many as three teams could be looking for goaltending help leading up the March 2nd trade deadline. The Wild may have been one of teams that contacted the Senators, but were told they weren’t ready to go down that path just yet. The Oilers are another team looking for help between the pipes, and the Blues seem to be included in any goaltending conversation.
  • Ian Mendes: Senators goalie Craig Anderson on trade rumors.

“The ball is in their court and all I can do is go out and play hockey. If something fits their needs where I don’t belong in their plans then so be it,” Anderson told a group of reporters on Thursday morning. “But I don’t even want to talk about it like that because there’s been no speculation about that at all.”

A numbers of teams could come calling for Anderson leading up to the March 2nd trade deadline.

“I try to stay away from that and let you guys handle most of the speculation. For us, our job is to come in here and play hockey and do the best we can. At the end of the day, just let the chips fall where they may. That’s all you can really worry about,” added Anderson.

  • Randy Miller of NJ.com: It may be time for the Flyers to look at moving some players out to increase their odds of a better draft pick. They could move out veteran defensemen in Nick Schultz, Luke Schenn, Nicklas Grossman and Braydon Coburn. They would likely be able to get some draft picks for them, possibly second and third rounders.
  • Ansar Khan of MLive: (mailbag) The Red Wings won’t trade Jonas Gustavsson when he and Jimmy Howard are healthy. Petr Mrazek will likely be returned to the AHL. Khan doesn’t see them trading prospects like  Anthony Mantha, Dylan Larkin, Xavier Ouellet or Ryan Sproul or young roster players like Tomas Tatar, Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Jurco or Riley Sheahan for a player that might put them over the top. Khan wonders if a package of Jakub Kindl or Joakim Andersson with a mid-level prospect and a second round pick would get them someone like Oilers Jeff Petry.
