  • Kevin Allen of the USA Today: What some contenders might do before the trade deadline.Anheim Ducks – will likely add a defenseman.

    Boston Bruins – need to add some scoring help and a defenseman. They don’t have a lot of cap space. Rental scorers include Chris Stewart and Michael Ryder.

    Detroit Red Wings – a veteran defenseman. Would considered Jeff Petry and Zbynek Michalek.

    Florida Panthers – could look to move Tomas Fleischmann, Tomas Kopecky or Sean Bergenheim.Los Angeles Kings – expected to trade for a defenseman. Have talked to the Maple Leafs about Dion Phaneuf and Roman Polak.

    Montreal Canadiens – could use a veteran defenseman. If they look at adding a forward, Jaromir Jagr had been interested in playing for them in the past.

    New York Rangers – could use another defenseman and could target Andrej Sekera.

    New York Islanders – not hearing much. Made big moves earlier this year in Johnny Boychuk and Nick Leddy.

    Pittsburgh Penguins – would like a top-six winger and would have to be dollar-in-dollar-out.

    Nashville Predators – have interest in adding a roll player with toughness.

    Tampa Bay Lighting – looking at defensive help.

    Winnipeg Jets – still looking for a top-nine forward. Looking at Daniel Winnik and Sean Bergenheim.

    Vancouver Canucks – top six scorer. Expected to trade Zack Kassian.
