Rumors II: Drouin, Red Wings, Jackets, Scouting DET-ANA
Jakub Kindl

On Jonathan Drouin …

  • Shawn Simpson: Pierre McGuire mentioned on TSN 1200 that Jonathan Drouin could be traded this week and that the Minnesota Wild are high on the list.

On the Detroit Red Wings …

  • Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News: The Red Wings gained $950,000 in cap space after Jakub Kindl cleared waivers. The Red Wings still need to clear around $1 million to be able to activate Kyle Quincey from the IR. Kindl will likely be assigned to the AHL today. GM Ken Holland had been trying to trade Kindl for a draft pick for the past several weeks, but wasn’t able to find a trade partner. The Wings were only offered back players with high salary.
  • Alexey Marchenko doesn’t require waivers, but his cap hit isn’t enough and he’s been one of their steadier defenseman since his recall.
  • Joakim Andersson has a $815,000 cap hit. He’s been a healthy scratch and could be waived.

On the Columbus Blue Jackets …

  • David Goricki of the Detroit News: There were rumors that Blue Jackets prospect Zach Werenski wasn’t happy at Michigan and was considering turning pro.

“I’m happy,” said Werenski, the No. 8 overall pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in last June’s NHL draft. “That was a terrible rumor, bad timing too, especially going on with the tournament. It’s not something you want to see. That’s why it’s a rumor and you have to push it off.

“I was kind of like, ‘What is this?’ when I read it. I just put it behind me. You see all that stuff. It pops up on your timeline. At that point, I just stopped looking at Twitter. I have bigger things to worry about than that.”

When asked if he’d consider leaving college midseason.

“No, not at all. I haven’t even thought about what I’m going to do at the end of this year or anything like that. I want to win at Michigan. That’s my goal. I came back to win a national championship and I think we have a team to do that. That’s why I’m here.”

Scouting the Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks …

  • Helene St. James: Scouting the Wings-Ducks game last night: Bruins, Blues (2), Avalanche, Capitals (2), Predators, Sabres (2), Panthers and Oilers.
