Rumors and Video: Staal, Pens, Wings, Bruins, Oilers, Caps and Flames
  • Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Source saying the Penguins are interested in reacquiring Jordan Staal. It is more of an offseason move, but the Penguins have talked to the Hurricanes as what it would cost  to trade for him before the deadline. The Penguins have less than a million in cap space, so they would have to move around some salary. The Pens traded Staal to the Hurricanes for Brandon Sutter, Brian Dumoulin and the eighth overall pick on 2012. Pens GM Jim Rutherford said earlier this week that he’d like to acquire some forward help.Staal signed 10-year, $60 million deal in 2012 with a full no-trade clause. Source close to Staal said that he would waive his no-trade to return to the Pens. Jordan signed the big deal to play with his brother Eric, who will be a UFA at the end of next season, and could be on the move as well.
  • Elliotte Friedman: It would take some serious salary movement for the Penguins to pull off a Staal trade.
  • Sportsnet: Damien Cox – Red Wings have no idea when Johan Franzen (concussion) will be back, and they could have to get a forward by the deadline.Teams may wait on coaching decisions this offseason until it’s known what Mike Babcock is doing.

The Lightning may be only team willing to move a first round pick as they have two.

Elliotte Friedman – Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli won’t trade Zdeno Chara.

No expectation that a Jeff Petry deal with Edmonton will get done.

Capitals Mike Green won’t be traded for a rental or prospect. If they are going to trade him, would have to be big deal and it’s unlikely to see a deal materializing.
