Rumors II: Leafs, Blues, Canadiens and Oilers
Alex Galchenyuk

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

  • Gord Stellick: If Brian Burke was hired a few months earlier by the Maple Leafs back in 2008, his first choice for the Leafs coach would have been Joel Quenneville.
  • Platinum Seat Ghosts: Elliotte Friedman on Maple Leafs trades: “I think they are a seller but I wonder if that just means the unrestricted guys or the short term guys.”
  • Platinum Seat Ghosts: Friedman on trade value:  “Based on that interview with Lou, the price is extremely high on Kadri.”

On the St. Louis Blues …

  • Jeremy Rutherford: Curious how Blues pull off a trade right now with all the injuries they have. Might be possible with a roster forward and prospects/draft picks, but not with a defenseman.

On the Montreal Canadiens …

  • Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Elliotte Friedman on 630 CHED on GM Marc Bergevin and the Montreal Canadiens.

“Look – What does he have to trade? He’s not trading Price. He’s not trading Subban. He’s not trading Max Pacioretty. Who else is he moving? I think under the right circumstances, he would consider moving Galchenyuk. But it’s got to be the right circumstances.

“The other thing too is while Carey Price is back on the ice – he’s starting to skate – but if you’re concerned about Carey Price’s health, are you really making a huge move on your team. Bergevin hasn’t answered that, but that’s a question from outside that I’m wondering. If I’m the Montreal Canadiens and I’m not sure about Carey Price, I’m not going all out for it. And I kind of wonder if that itself has brought an entire situation to a halt.

“The other guy that people want from Montreal is their American Hockey League center, Michael McCarron, who was in London of the Ontario Hockey League last year. He’s a big, strong center and Montreal doesn’t have a lot of that. They’re not too interested in trading it.”

On the Edmonton Oilers …

  • Jim Matheson on if the Oilers should start contract talks with free agent Cam Talbot.
