Roster decisions for Edmonton and New Jersey … Kings carry 6 rookies … Hodgson heading to AHL
  • Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal: Edmonton Oilers GM Steve Tambellini will wait until the last minute to make his decision on Sheldon Souray. He has to be either be assigned to the Oklahoma City Barons, or added to the Oilers 23 man roster. He will not be on the roster, and Tambellini won’t make a trade unless it benefits both sides. If Souray is assigned to the AHL and doesn’t report, he’ll be suspended. After he’s been assigned, he can also be loaned to another team or recalled. The Oilers are also carrying 3 goalies, Devan Dubnyk or Jeff Deslauriers will either be traded or sent to the AHL.
  • Bob McKenzie via twitter: With the Oilers likely to start the season carrying 3 goalies, there is no chance they’ll “store” Sheldon Souray on the roster. If one of the three goalies is moved they could.
  • Tom Gulitti of the Bergon Record: It appears that the Devils will place Bryce Salvador and Anssi Salmela on the LTIR before 3pm today. After they do that, they’ll have 20 signed players on the roster and will be $84,168 under the cap. Adam Mair is still in camp but is without a contract. If he’s signed and added to the roster, a player will have to be moved as they’ll be over the cap. They might be sending out a lineup with only 11 forwards.
    • Tom Gulitti via twitter: The report that Dainius Zubrus was on waivers was inaccurate. He wasn’t, and will not be put on waivers by the New Jersey Devils.
    • Helene Elliott of the LA Times: The Los Angeles Kings will start the season with 6 rookies on their roster. Kyle Clifford, Andrei Loktionov, Brayden Schenn and Trevor Lewis. Jake Muzzin will be the 7th defenseman while Matt Greene is out. Jonathan Bernier will backup Jonathan Quick. Clifford and Schenn could be returned to their junior clubs before they play their 10th game.
