Ritola suspended 2 games … Oilers looking for a Dman … Kings looking for a LWer … Sutter on waivers
  • TFP staff – The Fourth Period: The Edmonton Oilers are looking for a physical, shutdown defenseman. The Oilers are getting some interest in Dustin Penner and Ales Hemsky, but they don’t want to trade either player right now. The LA Kings have been looking for a front line left winger.
  • TFP staff – The Fourth Period: With Alexei Ponikarovsky out for 3-4 weeks and Scott Parse out 3-4 months, the LA Kings could be looking for a left winger. Florida Panthers Cory Stillman is in the final year of his deal and could be an option. Erik Cole of the Hurricanes and Dustin Penner could also be targets.
  • TFP staff  – The Fourth Period: A contract extension for Andrei Markov was apparently close from one report, but that may not be the case. It’s uncertain how things will proceed after his latest injury. The Canadiens are said to want to keep him long-term, and he wants to stay. ” Markov’s agent, Don Meehan, confirmed to TFP that he has not discussed a new contract with Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier.”
  • Bob McKenzie via twitter: The Carolina Hurricanes have put Brett Sutter on waivers. If Sutter clears waivers he’ll go to Charlotte collecting an AHL salary. Vicki Hall responds to a McKenzie tweet that the Flames are at the 50 contract limit … the Flames would have first chance at claiming him.
  • Corey Masisak via twitter: Braden Holtby will get one start in net for the Capitals this weekend. Tom Poti suffered a setback felt worse than original injury.
  • Dmitry Cheshnokov via twitter: Maple Leafs prospect Mikhail Stefanovich is unhappy with Marlies and had this to say to a Belorussian paper,

“Marlies’ coaches keep feeding me with promises that they will trust me more. But games come and everything is left as is. They say ‘Show yourself in practices.’ And we don’t practically have any – only games. Not a lot depends on me. And the head coach doesn’t approach me, doesn’t explain anything to me. There is a feeling he’s on his own wave. Nevertheless, I keep waiting for my chance… If only I was explained the reason of this limited trust. But no one says anything and knows nothing. I prefer to wait for my chance quietly. I haven’t spoken with anyone from Dinamo Minsk yet on the topic of a transfer. I only spoke with my agent. I don’t know how it will turn out. At least I am not against such a development. I would like to prove that I am capable of playing in the KHL.”
