Quick Hits: Grabovski, Hainsey, Morrow and Henrique
  • Dmitry Chesnokov: Former Maple Leafs center Mikhail Grabovski has only received one KHL offer. He’s not considering the KHL, only the NHL. Igor Eronko: Atlant GM on Grabovski: “We made an offer to Grabovski, but he wants to stay in #NHL, so we won’t see him in our team”
  • Luke DeCock of the Raleigh News & Observer: The Hurricanes continue to sniff around free agent defenseman Ron Hainsey. Trading Joni Pitkanen or Tim Gleason to make room for Hainsey on the blueline doesn’t make a lot of sense. Brenden Morrow’s agent confirmed that he has spoken with the Hurricanes. Thought the Hurricanes have $5 million in cap space, they are close to their internal cap number of $59.3 million. Morrow would fit nice with Jordan Staal and Tuomo Ruutu.
  • Rich Chere of the Star Ledger: Adam Henrique and the Devils could reach a reach a deal by the end of the week.

“Could be. It’s close. It’s coming along well,” Henrique confirmed. “There is no huge rush or deadline, so we’re just going at it a day at a time.”

After Ilya Kovalchuk walked away from the Devils, it could have given Henrique more leverage.

“I should just ask for the rest of his contract,” Henrique joked in a conversation today with The Star-Ledger.

“I never really looked at it as giving me more power or anything like that. We’re just trying to get something fair for myself and for the team. It obviously opens up a little more cap space.”
