The New York Rangers trade defenseman Dylan McIlrath to the Florida Panthers for defenseman Steve Kampfer and a conditional 2018 7th round draft pick.

The 24-year old McIlrath was drafted 10th overall in the 2010 draft by the Rangers.

The 28-year old Kampfer was drafted 93rd overall in the 4th round of the 2007 draft by the Ducks.

Media Notes …

Cap Friendly: “Kampfer’s cap hit is $612,500 & he’ll be UFA at seasons end. McIlrath’s cap hit is $800,000 & he’ll be RFA at seasons end.

Bob McKenzie: “If McIlrath plays 30 games for FLA this season, NYR get a 2018 7th round pick from FLA. If he plays less, no draft pick in deal.”

Larry Brooks: “Kampfer, 28 yo righty, recently cleared waivers and is en route to AHL Wolf Pack. Was in NYR 2014 camp, beaten for 7th D job by Hunwick.”

Steve Goldstein: “Interestingly, Dylan McIlrath played quite a bit with Keith Yandle last season with Rangers.”

Harvey Fialkov: “At 6-5, 236 pounds, Mcllrath could supply the toughness in front of the net that has been missing since trade of Gudbranson”
