NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks and the New Jersey Devils
Thomas Vanek

Teams waiting on Vanek and no serious offers for Tanev …

Dan Murphy: (late afternoon yesterday) There had been no serious calls to the Canucks about defenseman Chris Tanev. May not be any plans to sit players .

Dan Murphy: Forward Thomas Vanek is likely trade option B or C for some teams that are looking for wingers.

Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province: Thomas Vanek believes that he can play for another three or fours. Vanek is expected to be traded at the deadline.

Vanek is willing to accept a one-year contract to return on July 1st. That could depend on what the Canucks plan on doing this offseason and what happens with Herik and Daniel Sedin. Getting a no-trade clause somewhere could become important to Vanek.

“It’s tough to ask,” he said Friday. “I’m not complaining. My oldest will be a sixth-grader and to keep putting them into new schools for five months — that’s not fair to my kids. It’s something I would ask for next time around.

“In my previous years, I was not too worried about it (NTC). But what I have learned on a one-year deal is that if it doesn’t go right the first 50 games, you’re out and exposed. That’s not a fun thing.”

With the Sedin’s being free agents after the season and could retire from the NHL, Vanek has been trying to get them to say what they are thinking, but they aren’t sure yet.

Devils still talking to teams about deadline deal and potentially future trades …

Amanda Stein of NHL.com: Devils GM Ray Shero on if he feels he’s done trading.

“I’m not looking to reinvent the wheel here, I do like our team. But you’re in touch in case something happens to our team by Monday, 3 p.m. Or someone is available that I wasn’t sure of, something that makes sense, a hockey trade. You’re in touch with teams because it might not be today that you make a deal, it might be at the draft. The seeds are being planted so it’s always a great time to chat with every GM in the league and do your due diligence and gather information. We’ll see what happens Monday at 3.”
