On the Vancouver Canucks …
Jeff Peterson of the Vancouver Province: For those who think that the Vancouver Canucks will trade Daniel and Henrik Sedin before next years trade deadline, they might need to rethink that. The Sedin’s will be 37 years old soon and this year’s playoffs are showing once again that it’s a young man’s game. Justin Williams (35) is the only player that is over 32 years old that is in the top 36 in playoff scoring.
Finding a team that thinks two 37-year olds will put them over the hump is unlikely, nevermind having to give up prospects or draft picks to acquire them.
The Sedin’s also hold no-movement clauses and have said in the past that they want to stay in Vancouver as long as team wants them. The Canucks have said they won’t look at trading them unless the Sedin’s ask to be traded.
On the Tampa Bay Lightning and Jonathan Drouin …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Last week Bob McKenzie was on TSN 1040 talking about the Tampa Bay Lightning and if they would trade Jonathan Drouin, potentially to help fill the need on their blueline.
“We should preface it by saying that Steve Yzerman hasn’t said anything on any front that would indicate what they are going to do,” said McKenzie during a Thursday afternoon radio hit on Vancouver’s TSN 1040. “But what we can mention is that the St. Louis Blues and the Tampa Bay Lightning had a deal done in January for Kevin Shattenkirk and it would have gone through if Shattenkirk had agreed to terms on the contract offer that the Tampa Bay Lightning gave him, which he didn’t. And it is strongly believed that Jonathan Drouin was the piece going the other way as part of the deal.”
McKenzie doesn’t think the idea of trading Drouin is far-fetched, based on opinion and not inside information. Trading Drouin could help with their salary cap situation and would land them a premium defenseman. McKenzie adds that Drouin’s trade request and any “bad blood” is “ancient history.”
