NHL Rumors: Trade/Waiver Freeze, Golden Knights, Ducks, Avs and Rangers
NY Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein could retire from the NHL and head overseas
On trade and waiver freeze …

Bob McKenzie: All teams except the Vegas Golden Knights have a trade/waiver freeze starting Saturday June 17th at 3:00 PM ET. Teams have to submit their protected lists on Saturday June 17th by 5:00 PM ET.

Bob McKenzie: The trade/waiver freeze ends on Thursday June 22nd at 8:00 AM ET.

Bob McKenzie: Teams can make deals with Vegas, and only Vegas, starting on June 18th at 10:00 AM ET.

On Vegas Golden Knights trades …

David Pagnotta: Sounds like the Golden Knights have trades worked out with the Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets so far that are related to the expansion draft.

David Pagnotta: There is talk that the Minnesota Wild are another team that are trying to work out a deal with Vegas but there is nothing confirmed yet.

On the Anaheim Ducks …

Elliotte Friedman: Sounds like the Ducks didn’t ask defenseman Kevin Bieksa to waive his no-movement clause. The Ducks or Bieksa’s agent are not commenting on it.

On the Colorado Avalanche …

Mike Chambers: The Avalanche won’t say if they asked anyone – Erik Johnson, Francois Beauchemin and Carl Soderberg – to waive their no-trades clauses for the expansion draft or if they did. (Johnson and Beauchemin have NMCs, Soderberg as a modified NTC)

On the New York Rangers …

Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Sources saying that NY Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein could be thinking about retiring from the NHL. Klein dealt with back issues last season and missed over 20 games. He was a healthy scratch for most of the playoffs, getting in only one game.

Klein is thinking of leaving the NHL and heading to Europe to continue playing. A final decision hasn’t been made. Klein has a year left on his deal with a $2.9 million cap hit, a $2.75 million salary. If Klein retires, the Rangers would gain $2.9 million in cap space.
