NHL Rumors: Top NHL Trade Candidates
James van Riemsdyk and Justin Faulk are two of the top NHL trade candidates for this season
On the top trade candidates for this season …

Lyle Richardson of Bleacher Report: Looking at some players who could be traded this upcoming season.

Mike Green – Detroit Red Wings – He carries a $6 million salary cap hit and could be a rental if the Red Wings are out of the playoff race. He also has a no-movement clause.

Jacob Trouba – Winnipeg Jets – Signed a two-year deal before last season after he requested a trade, which he later rescinded. He makes $2.8 million and will be looking for a big raise on his next deal. If he wants too much, the Jets could look to move him.

James Neal – Vegas Golden Knights – The soon to be 30-year old is entering the last year of his contract. They could move him for draft picks and prospects before the deadline.

James van Riemsdyk – Toronto Maple Leafs – He’ll be an unrestricted free agent after the season, and the Maple Leafs could consider moving him. He’ll be looking for a raise from his $4.25 million, and it would be hard for the Maple Leafs to re-sign. The Leafs would likely hold on to him if they are in the playoff hunt.

Justin Faulk – Carolina Hurricanes – Could use some help down the middle and they might have to use Faulk to get it. He carries a $4.8 million cap hit through 2019-20.

Gabriel Landeskog – Colorado Avalanche – His $5.57 million cap hit through 2020-21 wouldn’t be easy for some teams to take on. Has a modified no-trade clause that kicks next July.

Evander Kane – Buffalo Sabres – Trade rumors will likely continue this season. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent after the season. If the Sabres are out of the playoff race, they could look to move him at the trade deadline.

Matt Duchene – Colorado Avalanche – Has two years left on his contract at $6 million and will continue to be in the rumor mill. GM Joe Sakic is believed to be looking for young, top-four defensemen.
