NHL Rumors: The Cost and Potential Landing Spots for Jacob Trouba
Jacob Trouba and Matt Duchene
On Jacob Trouba …

Gary Lawless: After making some calls around the league yesterday, the Jets don’t have interest in trading Trouba unless they can get a left-handed defenseman of similar ability and age.

Gary Lawless: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff isn’t looking to acquire draft picks and prospects for the 22-year old Trouba who has four more years under team control.

Gary Lawless: Cheveldayoff won’t be taking Trouba’s trade request personal. It’s just business. Each side has their agenda, and wouldn’t expect the Jets to cave.

Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun: The Jets have lots of forwards in the organization and will be looking to add depth on the left side of their blueline. They won’t just be looking for a left-handed defenseman in a Trouba trade.

Wiebe wonders if the Jets are just looking to move Trouba, or if they would look to make a bigger blockbuster.

Five teams that could be interested in Trouba and who could be a fit.

Arizona Coyotes – Michael Stone is a year away from unrestricted free agency, so Trouba could be a fit beside either Oliver Ekman-Larsson or Alex Goligoski.

The Coyotes have plenty of prospects or young NHL that might interest the Jets, but outside of Jakob Chychrun, they don’t have much when it comes to left-handed defensemen.

Boston Bruins – It was rumored the Bruins were considering offer sheeting Trouba.

A deal would probably have to include Torey Krug along with a draft pick or prospect. The Bruins don’t have a lot of cap room.

Colorado Avalanche – There were some offseason rumors of a Trouba for Matt Duchene trade.

Duchene has three years left at $6 million a year. They Jets may prefer to not trade within their division, but if it’s the best offer, they can’t rule it out.

Detroit Red Wings – Would a trade package involving Danny DeKeyser work? The Jets were interested in him when he was a college free agent. He’s under contract for another six years at $5 million per.

Philadephia Flyers – the Flyers might be interested in a Shayne Gostisbehere – Jacob Trouba pairing.

The Flyers have left-handed prospects Ivan Provorov and Travis Sanheim.

The Flyers don’t have a lot of salary cap space, so the Jets would have to take back salary.
