NHL Rumors: Isles, Blues, Stars, Habs, Ducks, Avs, Lightning, Jets and More
Tampa Bay Lightning

On the New York Islanders, St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, Anaheim Ducks, Colorado Avalanche, Tampa Bay Lightning, Winnipeg Jets …

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: The New York Islanders may have asked the Florida Panthers permission to speak with Gerard Gallant about three weeks ago. The Islanders and the Vegas Golden Knights are current coaching options for Gallant. The Islanders would be interested in Claude Julien if the Bruins fire him.

The Islanders may have been thinking about trading Ryan Strome according to one executive, but that might change with a new voice behind the bench.

It makes some sense for the Blues to trade pending free agent Kevin Shattenkirk. They already have right handed defensemen in Alex Pietrangelo and Colton Parayko, and could use the salary cap space for another area. Shattenkirk didn’t like the idea of the Edmonton Oilers long-term, but what about in the short-term? What about the Montreal Canadiens or Toronto Maple Leafs in the short-term? Some are convinced that Shattenkirk wants to play of the New York Rangers.

Brian Elliott going back to St. Louis was shot down.

The injury to Jamie Oleksiak, and possibly Johnny Oduya, lessened the chances of the Stars moving a defenseman for the time being.

Eric Engels thinks the Montreal Canadiens and Anaheim Ducks have been talking trade. The Canadiens have been scouting the Ducks.

The Colorado Avalanche have been scouting the Kings AHL team, and defenseman Paul Ladue is one of the players they have been watching.

Shouldn’t be a surprise if a goaltender comes up as a piece on any package for Gabriel Landeskog and Matt Duchene.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are looking make a move. They must protect Valtteri Filppula in the expansion draft. He has a partial no-trade clause and a year left at $5 million. Won’t be easy to move him.

The Lightning could make defenseman Nikita Nesterov available. One GM said he’s heard that Nesterov wants to return to Russia, but his agent said that he wants to remain in North America.

The Jets may be thinking that Michael Hutchinson would get claimed if they put him on waivers, possibly by the San Jose Sharks.

Could see the Kings, Ducks and Sharks possibly being interested in Shane Doan.
