NHL Rumors: Stars, Doan, Rangers, Coyotes and Jets
The New York Rangers may use Derek Stepan as trade bait for top pairing right defenseman
On the Dallas Stars …

Sean Shapiro: (from follower – According to a report out of Sweden, the Vegas Golden Knights have a deal in place to select Kari Lehtonen) .. Saw a tweets about this but haven’t seen an English report that can be properly read.

Mike Heika: Source saying the Stars do not have any side deals with Vegas

On Shane Doan …

OverDrive 1050: Darren Dreger said yesterday that as of last week Shane Doan hadn’t decided if he wanted to keep playing.

Craig Morgan: The Coyotes offered Doan a front office job. thinks that Doan would at least think about the offer for a bit.

On the New York Rangers, Arizona Coyotes and Winnipeg Jets …

Larry Brooks of the New York Post: Center Derek Stepan has a lot of trade value, but unless the Rangers are able to get a top-pairing right defensman they should hold on to him.

It doesn’t look like the Rangers have the right pieces to trade for Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba.

wonders about a three way deal involving the Arizona Coyotes. The Coyotes sending one of their young forwards – Clayton Keller, Dylan Strome, Christian Dvorak and Max Domi – for Stepan and then the Rangers flipping that piece to Winnipeg for Trouba.

Another option could be Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Justin Faulk.

Pure conjecture idea: McDonagh and Stepan for MacKinnon and Tyson Barrie.

If they move Stepan for a defenseman, they could looking for a stopgap free agent or move J.T. Miller back to center.

Shouldn’t expect the Rangers to fill their right side issue by signing Kevin Shattenkirk to a six- or seven-year deal at between $6.25 million and $6.75 million.

It’s hard to say who of Antti Raanta, Oscar Lindberg, Jesper Fast and Michael Grabner the Rangers will lose in the expansion draft.

The Golden Knights could select Raanta and then flip him to the Arizona Coyotes or Philadelphia Flyers for a 3rd round pick.
