NHL Rumors: Scouting, Avalanche and the Golden Knights
Vadim Shipachyov of the Vegas Golden Knights
On Scouting the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings game …

Bruce Garrioch: There were 22 scouts from 20 teams listed to attend the Senators-Red Wings game. There are 11 other games tonight … It seems like something is brewing.

On the Colorado Avalanche …

Chris Nichols: Darren Dreger: “I’m told on a daily basis that Matt Duchene will be traded. And I’m told that by people who are involved in the process.”

On the Vegas Golden Knights …

Eric Engels of Sportsnet: Vadim Shipachyov is back in Russia waiting for his situation with Vegas straightened out. He’s hoping to have his contract terminated so he can sign back in the KHL.

If the Golden Knights agree to terminate his contract, they would place him on unconditional waivers for 24 hours.

If a team claimed Shipachyov, that team would take on the two-year, $9 million contract, but Vegas would be on the hook for his $2 million signing bonus that he already received. GM George McPhee hopes to get a guarantee that no team would claim him.

If Shipachyov has his contract terminated, he would have to pay all the signing bonus back, except for a pro-rated $86,000.

Steve Carp: McPhee said there is nothing new to report with regards to Vadim Shipachyov. He’s still suspended without pay and McPhee doesn’t know what the resolution will be.

Steve Carp: GM George McPhee said there would be no trade for a goaltender: “We’ll ride it out with who we have.”

Jared Clinton of The Hockey News: Looking at five goaltenders that the Golden Knights could look at.

Michael Hutchinson – Winnipeg Jets – $1.15 million and wouldn’t cost much.

Curtis McElhinney – Toronto Maple Leafs – A trade may benefit both sides. Would give the Maple Leafs space to bring up Calvin Pickard.

Jared Coreau – Detroit Red Wings

Michael Leighton – Tampa Bay Lightning

Jeff Zatkoff – Los Angeles Kings
