NHL Rumors: Sabres, Avalanche and Canucks
Could Jarome Iginla waive his no-trade clause this year?

On the Buffalo Sabres …

John Vogl: The Buffalo Sabres were involved in some trade talks yesterday. Can’t say for sure if/when anything could come from it.

On the Colorado Avalanche …

Adrian Dater of Bleacher Report: Colorado Avalanche winger Jarome Iginla wouldn’t waive his no-trade clause last year. Could things change this year?

“I want to play in the playoffs. I think it will be here, that we have the ability to get there,” Iginla said.

When asked if he would waive his no-trade clause this season, he wouldn’t say yes or no.

“I’m really not thinking about that. It’s too soon in the season,” he said.

Iginla is in the last year of his deal and carries a $5.3 million cap hit.

On the Vancouver Canucks ….

Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province: The Vancouver Canucks could get trade interest on Alex Burrows from a Stanley Cup contender at the trade deadline. Burrows will be a free agent at seasons end, and could net the Canucks a draft pick.

Teams like the New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens could be interested in Burrows as a rental. Burrows has played under Rangers coach Alain Vigneault. Burrows has a no-trade clause.

“It’s a possibility for sure,” said Burrows, who has a no-trade contract clause. “I haven’t really put that much thought into it. My first goal was to play in the NHL, my second was to stay as long as I could (853 career regular season and playoff games) and the third was to win a Stanley Cup. The third has been harder than I wanted, but it’s still there and there’s still a chance.

“I just love the moment. That’s what I play for — to be in the playoffs and win those meaningful games that people are going to remember and be part of history. Those are easy games to get up for.”

Burrows carries a $4.5 million salary cap hit, but only a $3 million salary.
