On the Detroit Red Wings and Petr Mrazek …
Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: As of last night it doesn’t appear that the Detroit Red Wings and Petr Mrazek will reach an agreement on a new deal before their arbitration hearing that is schedule today.
“Ideally, I’d love to negotiate a deal with all our players,” Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said from Toronto, site of the Wednesday hearing. “We’ll see.”
Mrazek is looking for $5 million a season on a two year deal, with the Wings offering $2.7 million and $3.15 million. The Wings filed for arbitration so Mrazek had the option to chose either one or two years.
The Wings don’t want to go to $5 million as Mrazek has been inconsistent during the past couple seasons.
On the New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs and John Tavares …
Emily Sadler of Sportsnet: Islanders center John Tavares will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2017-18 season. There has already been talk that the Toronto Maple Leafs will target him if he reaches free agency, but Taraves is thinking Islanders long-term.
“I would not count on that,” Tavares told Sportsnet’s Andrew Walker during an appearance on Sportsnet 590 The FAN Tuesday.
“I think I’ve always showed my commitment, my appreciation and my desire to play on Long Island. I’d love for that to continue for the long haul,” he said. “I think you look at some of the greatest players in the game, they have been able to spend their entire careers somewhere and I hope I’m in that same position.
“Obviously being from Toronto, people are going to make those connections…It is what it is. It’s nothing I can control. I just want to go out there and be the best player and best person I can be for the Islanders, day in and day out, and I’m just going to focus on tomorrow and the upcoming season.”
