NHL Rumors: Subban, Kings, Stamkos and the Lightning
P.K. Subban, Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning
On P.K. Subban

Adrian Dater: An anonymous ex Canadien to the Toronto Star on Subban:  “They hated how much fun he had. The fact that he never sulked and pouted, win or lose, just bugged them”

On the Los Angeles Kings …

Dennis Bernstein: Hearing that the Kings could be interested in UFA defenseman Roman Polak.

Dennis Bernstein: The Kings will talk with Kyle Okposo‘s reps. It might be better for the Kings to get a defenseman, but it’s not easy to do, so adding a top-six is an option.

On Steven Stamkos

Pierre LeBrun: The Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Sabres and a fourth team made in person sales pitches to the Steven Stamkos this week. The Red Wings were not one of the teams to meet with the Stamkos.

Elliotte Friedman: Guessing that the Sharks made a stealth run at Stamkos.

Kevin Kurz: Don’t see how the Sharks would have been able to fit Stamkos’ contract in while haveing Patrick Marleau on the roster.

Joe Smith: Yzerman gives credit to Stamkos for working with the Lightning on the contract and allowing them to remain competitive.

On the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Joe Smith: Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said that he’s confident they’ll get under the salary cap – buyouts (Carle), trades, etc.

Joe Smith: With Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman needing extensions soon, don’t see how they’ll be able to fit Ben Bishop in after this year.

Joe Smith: The Lightning still have lots of work to do with RFAs Nikita Kucherov, Alex Killorn and Vladislav Namestnikov.

Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times: Victor Hedman won’t be a free agent until after next season, and Hedman’s agent, Peter Wallen said he’d be surprised if it dragged on all year.

There haven’t been any contract talks yet, but Wallen understands as Yzerman has had lots to deal with.

“When (the Lightning) is ready to talk, we’ll be here,” Wallen said.
